DHL Parcel Ground and Parcel Plus Ground ERROR!

Anyone have a way to automate this...

I'm extraordinarily sick of seeing this error. This does nothing to help streamline or increase efficiency in our warehouse. This adds time to an already timely shipping process.

The Problem:
The weight of the package as estimated in our system is estimated incorrectly. Therefore, the service imported into Shipstation is incorrect. In this case, the package was overweight for DHL GM Parcel Ground. The manual workaround is, we select the "service" drop down (click 1) select the appropriate service "DHL GM Parcel Plus Ground" (Click 2) then have to wait for Shipstation to refresh.

This also happens in the reverse, where the weight is too low to trigger the imported service and we have to manually switch from Parcel Plus Ground to Parcel Ground.

Possible Solution:
Automated/Customized error handling would be preferred. When this issue occurs, the best case scenario would be for Shipstation to automatically switch the service type.

Yes, getting better weight would help. We are in the process. However, this will never work completely as we have access to but do not stock up to 60,000 skus.

    Hey Chris,

Thanks for reaching out! When it comes to the weights being imported into ShipStation, you say your system is estimating them incorrectly. Are you adjusting those weights after they import into ShipStation? We have automation rules where you can base the criteria off the total weight of the order then select the appropriate carrier, service, and package type you would like to apply to that order. These rules would of course only work if the weight values coming from your ordering system are valid so it might not be a viable solution at the moment. But when you update the weights accordingly in your ordering system, it would be the best solution to completely automate the process.

However, I do like your idea of custom error handling. Would be an interesting new feature to explore in ShipStation. Would you mind placing your idea over at our Product Feedback and Fresh Ideas forum?

The bottom line here is that ShipStation is going to work with the data that it's been given. If the weights are not coming over properly from your ordering system then I think it's going to cause you a few more clicks and possibly some error messages along the way as it's not the most ideal set of data to work with. Though I do see where you are coming from, customized error handling would be a nice way of handling some of those more common error messages.

When I say that the weights are importing incorrectly. This could be as little as 1 oz. (difference between parcel ground and parcel plus ground). In our import, we dictate the shipping method. These are based on weight calculations within our system. This gets very complicated when a customer orders multiple items.

Once we go to ship the actual items and the weight is checked via the scale, the shipment method may no longer be viable. Therefore, we simply change to the appropriate method. More work, more time.

Oh, so the actual weight calculation is being done via a scale reading shortly before the label is created. Now I definitely see where you are coming from with those pesky error messages. Are you currently using any or tried using Shipping Presets based off hotkeys? Would help reduce the dependency of those mouse clicks which would free up a little more time.

Unfortunately, shipping presets for the purpose of selecting a shipping carrier or method is not a value add for our business. As a primarily e-commerce business all decisions with regards to shipping carrier and method are handled at the time the customer issues an order. Each order is assigned a carrier and method prior to importing to Shipstation.
